The first Autism History Museum opened its doors on Friday, February 4, 2022 in Meridian Mall with a launch and gala event hosted by the Xavier DeGroat Autism Foundation.
Xavier DeGroat, Founder and CEO of the Xavier DeGroat Autism Foundation created the Foundation of a such thing as an Autism History Museum to increase public awareness and of the contributions that autistics have done for the world in innovations, science, technology, arts and culture that impacted our society we live in today.
“There was no such thing as an autism history museum, so I started this to help increase public awareness and acceptance of autism, tour people, and educate the community about our different minds because of my own autism diagnoses.”
About the Museum
When you walk through the doors, your eyes will be drawn to a wall full of autism history with some familiar faces like Albert Einstein and Elon Musk.
“They'll learn a lot about the great revolutions and Italian Renaissance to the present. And how many people with autism have helped satisfy technologies or sciences or even government relations," DeGroat said.
He hopes the Xavier DeGroat Autism Foundation will inspire others.
The museum decorated with some of our childhood favorites also has toys dedicated to help kids with autism.
“Kids with autism have coping sensational differences because they will be overloaded with stimulation," DeGroat said.
